about

This song is quite dear to me for many reasons, one of them being its place on my journey as a songwriter. I actually cofounded Songwriting at Berkeley, with my ride or die @Sanjeev, without ever having finished a song. As you might imagine, I was quite insecure, especially when freshman @Eric showed up his first day and whipped out three solid anthems. But about half a year later I wrote this song, and remember being quite nervous to share it, as is usually the case with songs that are meaningful to me. And I remember the sensation of a quiet audience combined with losing myself in the song when I first played it. Which was the first time I’d experienced that with my own music; a feeling I’d been searching for for so long.

I think quite fondly of that time, and the people I shared it with. When things were new.

lyrics

When you found me I was surrounded by stones and lilies in a field
I longed for a savior and you said stay here, how weak had I been

In plain sight I displayed my mind, but their eyes were unable to see
But you came by and you asked me why, oh stop what you do to me child

What am I supposed to do without you
Where the hell will I go
I’m inclined to believe you are trouble to be
But for now that means nothing to me

It may be trite, but my god your eyes, make me feel like I haven’t in a while
Now the way I tell if my day went well, was if I had made you smile

What am I supposed to do without you
Where the hell will I go
I’m inclined to believe you are trouble to be
But for now that means nothing to me

What am I supposed to do without you
Oh I’d rather not know
I’m inclined to believe you are trouble to be
But for now you are everything to me
